Is the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 a Good Electric Car? Pros and Cons

The automobile brand Genesis is known for making some of the best electric vehicles in the market. One such car coming to the market is the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80. The Genesis G80 will undergo a significant change in 2023 with the launch of an all-electric version of the car.

About the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80

Aside from the same luxurious features and luxury furnishings that the gasoline version of the G80 delivers, the Electrified G80 also improves on it in some ways. In addition to the Electrified G80’s electric motors, this car has an even quieter and more refined ride thanks to its electric motors.

Due to the added torque provided by the large battery and two electric motors mated with a standard all-wheel drive system, the Electrified G80 is more responsive and able to accelerate from a standstill in a short time. In addition to having a livelier feel when driving, the Electrified G80 is also the sportier version of the G80 to drive, but it is not without its faults.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 starts at $145,000 before on-road costs, and a fully-equipped model begins at $156,000.

The Pros of the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80

More powerful

The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 is more powerful than the normal 2023 Genesis G80. In spite of its extra 585 pounds of curb weight due to the use of an electric battery in its electric car, the Electrified G80 offers a smoother ride when accelerating than its gas-powered counterpart. By combining 365 horses and 516 pounds feet of torque, the Electrified G80 is quicker off the line than its gasoline counterpart.

The fact that the gasoline version has 10 hp more, the advantage is negated by less torque and the lack of instant response of an eight-speed automatic transmission that is not as quick and responsive as the electric version.

Fast Charging Times

Electric vehicles are great, it is even greater if the vehicle has fast charging capabilities. With its fast-charging station capable of a 350-kilowatt DC output, Genesis claims that the Electrified G80 can go from a 10% charge to 80% in just 22 minutes, making it one of the best electric vehicles on the market, regardless of the price tag.

The Electrified G80 lived up to its factory claim when it was tested, delivering on the factory’s claim of going from 16% to 80% in 20 minutes. It is estimated that the Electrified G80 can reach 100% in just 7 hours, and 22 minutes when you use a 48-ampere home charger enabling it to be charged at a rate of 10.9 kW.

More Luxurious in terms of features and looks

The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 is more luxurious than the normal gasoline version of the car. The Electrified G80 has an electric powertrain, and the G80 Electrified is even quieter and more refined than the original G80, which gives the car the appearance of being even more extravagant. There is a little more road and tire impact noise in the electric version than in the gas version, but it is not enough to bother you.

The Cons of the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80

Smaller Cargo Space

The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 has a lot less cargo space when compared to the normal gasoline version of the G80, the reason for this is the extra components in the electrified version such as the larger power train and the battery.

In comparison to the gasoline powered G80, the electric components are much more, so the total capacity of the vehicle has been reduced from 16.1 cubic feet to 12.9 cubic feet. Considering how much luggage and storage volume this vehicle has, and how many EVs do not have a front trunk, such as a lot of others do, that’s quite a bit of luggage and storage space for this vehicle

Not enough smoothness

While driving in moderate mode, there is a disturbing lag in response when a driver presses the accelerator. An abrupt start can occur when the power comes on in a big way. A similar phenomenon occurs when you brake while driving in one-pedal mode: Lift the throttle and the brakes come on after a disturbing delay. Also, jerky back-and-forth motions can occur when coming to a complete stop.

Limitations of the Navigation System

Although the navigation system and the Artificial intelligence feature in the car are quite handy there are some drawbacks. Like some other cars from rival brands such as Tesla, there is a feature that shows all the charging stations in the way when you plan a trip through its navigation system, which the navigation system of the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 cannot, thus making it difficult to pre-plan trips.

Despite this, the Genesis will display charging stations along the way and give you a projected range; however, if you need a boost, it won’t direct you there automatically.
