The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the 530i continues to produce 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque from the previous model year. However, a 48-volt starter-generator for better fuel efficiency gives the 540i a significant increase inside. Its inline-six engine is still there, but the stop/start function will function more effectively thanks to the new generator.
When coasting or braking, this technology can recover energy, which it uses to generate an extra 11 horsepower
when the turbocharger isn’t fully spooled. According to BMW, the 540i can accelerate from a complete stop to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds or 4.6 seconds with xDrive AWD. Official fuel economy statistics are still pending announcement.
Like before, all 2024 BMW 5 Series models come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 that powers the M550i xDrive continues to produce 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. All 2024 BMW 5 Series grades will be equipped with Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Collision Preparation as just a few of the standard safety equipment.
