The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is coming and it is such a big deal for a reason. First of all, electric vehicles have been considered important, especially in the last years. Chevrolet’s Plan
The company has a plan to manufacture the pickup truck (with GM-Ultium basis) so they can meet the market’s demands. They are planning on having different variants of Silverado EVs, starting from the simple working trucks to the higher trims with advanced features (which may cost more than $100,000). Like Ford, Chevy
is planning to have the impressive performance type, four-door (crew) cab, and also high-end techs for their EV trucks.
Some Basic Info of the Silverado EV
So, what do we know about the upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado EV? For a starter, the body style would be a four-door full size crew cab pickup with midgate. It is able to accommodate 5 people quite comfortably. The pickup truck would be coming with 664 hp and 780 Nm of torque, able to reach 60 mph within 4.5 seconds. The electric power is able to cover up 400 miles of range with a single charge. Details are still shady, but the expected delivery should take place in Fall 2023 with the starting price tag of $40,000. The highest trim, the First RST Edition, may cost up to $105,000.
Why EVs Crucial?
Silverado EVs are considered crucial because American auto market is filled with full size pickup trucks. Having electric trucks is definitely potential and promising, considering the uprising technology and people’s preferences toward vehicles that are eco-friendly. It’s too bad that Chevy has actually lost the race of electric production, as Rivian was the one starting off producing electric trucks. They launched their Rivian R1T by the end of 2021. It’s a good thing that Chevy realizes their fall and starts following off Ford. Ford has a plan to launch their Ford F-150 Lighting (in 2022), along with GMC with their Hummer EV.
Powertrain and Performance
The upcoming Silverado EV would have electric motors (a pair of them) that is able to generate 664 hp with the Wide Open Watts option. In the base Work Truck line, the powertrain is ‘only’ 510 hp. Silverado EV would be using the battery technology and Ultium platform from General Motor. After all, this architecture is flexible and it would be used in many GM EVs, including 2013 Caddy Lyriq and GMC Hummer.
The Silverado EV would install the motors on the rear and front axles, which means that it would come with four wheel (electronically controlled) driving system. There won’t be any mechanical connection between the rear and front of the truck.
Electric Driving Range
It is said that the 2024 Silverado EV would be able to cover 400 miles of distance through one charge, thanks to the biggest Ultium battery pack. Chevrolet plans on launching Silverado EVs with shorter ranges later on. Ford plans on releasing the F-150 Lightning, able to cover either 230 miles or 300 miles with one charge. Meanwhile, Tesla has confirmed that their Cybertruck would be able to cover 500 miles of range, although the models with shorter ranges abilities are also available.
Exterior Design
For the exterior design, the Silverado EV plans on using the unified design, having no gap or whatsoever between the bed and the cab. You can say that the new Silverado has this mild athletic stance with muscular foundation. The upfront modern lighting is available. For the RST trim, there would be a high-spec LED accent light covering the width.
