2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Possibility of Electric Power

Everyone is excited about the (claimed) promising 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee although the company hasn’t said much about it. But there has been a rendering image of Grand Cherokee L Trackhawk, and the imagined vehicle looks quite promising and solid. If it’s true that Jeep is adding up the Trackhawk into their lines, then the seven seater ride can offer something promising and good. At least it would be something that won’t disappoint at all.

What’s Coming, Jeep?

Jeep hasn’t said a lot of things about their upcoming productions, especially beyond the 2023 model. However, they did reveal that their Grand Cherokee coming with electric power. Yes, you heard it right: the flagship SUV from Jeep would be electrified. It would start from 2022 two-row Grand Cherokee that comes with plug in hybrid electric in the variants. And it would be offered in American auto market. The Grand Cherokee 4xe would be joining the lineup, while the electric Renegade and Compass would be launched in Europe.

According to Christian Meunier, the CEO, this is a part of their zero emission plan because they are going to offer full electric vehicles in the SUV segment by 2025. The plug in hybrid ride was introduced after Stellantis (the parent company of JeepOpens in a new tab.) develops Dodge muscle ride and RAM 1500 pickup battery electric version in 2024. The company promised 30 billion of Euros in investment related to electrification within the mid of the decade.

The Plan for Future Electric Variant

It’s safe to say that it’s going to be the beginning of the fifth generation of Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee (with its two row arrangement) is sharing architecture with Grand Cherokee L (the three row layout). The Grand Cherokee L is scheduled to launch somewhere this year. Both of them would be manufactured at the new assembly complex located in Detroit.

Powertrain and Performance

Grand Cherokee 4xe would be running on two (electric) motors and a battery pack having 400V of power. They would be located under the floor and then protected by solid skid plates. It would also be coming with inline four cylinder turbocharged unit with 2.0 liter capacity that is paired to auto eight speed transmission. The arrangement is able to generate 375 hp and 470 Nm of torque, along with towing ability up to 6,000 pounds.

In terms of performance (and distance coverage), the 4xe is able to cover 25 miles entirely on electric and also (the estimated) 57 MPGe (or Miles Per Gallon equivalent). Jeep implements advanced technology with regenerative braking to boost (or maintain) the charge.

In the meanwhile, the regular Grand Cherokee comes with two engines. The V6 Penstar unit with 3.6 liter capacity would be the standard, able to generate 293 hp and 260 Nm of torque. Another one is the V8 unit with 5.7 liter capacity to deliver 357 hp and 390 Nm of torque. The V6 has 6,200 pounds for towing ability while the V8 can handle 7,200 pounds. Aside from the powerful engine lineup, the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee will also come with advanced safety features that will make the ride not only comfortable, but also safe.

Release Date and Price

The Cherokee should be available soon in North America. The 2022 model has been released in 2021, so the 2024 model should be available somewhere in 2023. The 4xe is planned to release after the regular Grand Cherokee, so it’s unclear whether it would be available in the same year of 2023 or in the very beginning of 2024. After all, Jeep hasn’t said anything about the details; let alone about the price and also launch date. Once we hear more about 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we will provide updates immediately.
