Although there have been fuss about the availability or the possibility of 2024 Kia Sportage launch, it’s likely that it is actually happening as the 2023 model. With the pandemics and everything, it’s said that the actual 2023 model has been changed to 2024 model. But then of course, there is no confirmation from the company, which makes everything vague and uncertain. But before we talk about the 2024 model, we are going to talk about the 2023 model.
The 2023 Model Year
For the 2023 model, the Sportage will get a redesigned work, which means that you should expect transformation and changes happening to the car. Kia has confirmed this 2023 availability, claiming that the sales will take place in 2022; most likely in the first quarter. And the company has provided the specs for the one coming to US market.
The Exterior Design
It’s safe to say that the redesigned upcoming Sportage is quite dramatic. The overall look would be new, covering clamshell hood on the front and also pinched (tailgate’s leading edge), which is similar to the appearance of EV6 Kia’s electric crossover. The crossover, by the way, was designed and introduced in 2022. And not to forget the signature look of Kia, there would be a grille design that spans the vehicle’s facial width. Another cool (and unique) element would be the (matrix) LED headlights. The clusters would be located quite low on the facial spot, bounded and connected to daytime lights with boomerang shape. The available wheel would be set between 17 inches and 19 inches (in diameter). If there is a 2024 Kia Sportage underway (provided that the company has provided such a vehicle), then it’s most likely that the 2024 model would be a carryover.
The Interior Cabin
The interior design is about premium ambiance and vibe. If you have been driving an Audi, then the overall set would seem familiar. You can see a good dashboard layout with driver oriented style in it. Such a look is dominated by a curvy display screen with 12.3 inch which somewhat separates the infotainment system and the instrument cluster.
The steering wheel houses multiple controls along with a rotary dial. The vehicle has its own Terrain Mode which can adjust some settings automatically. It is can improve stability on slippery road or uneven terrain, including sand, mud, and snow. The X-Pro models even provide offroad hardware, such as wiper naxxles, heated windshield, and also LED fog lights.
Powertrain and Performance
It seems that the Sportage will likely similar to the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson lineup. It’s likely that the ride would be coming with the standard inline four unit of 2.5 liter capacity that can deliver 187 hp. It would be paired with auto 8 speed transmission and standard front wheel driving system. All wheel driving would be offered as an optional pick.
There is a possibility of hybrid power. The first one would be plug in hybrid system with four cylinder turbocharged unit of 1.6 liter capacity that is paired with one electric motor that is matching to an auto 6 speed transmission. This is able to generate 226 hp.
About 2024 Model
As it was mentioned before, whether the 2023 model would be coming as the 2024 model or not, it hasn’t been decided yet. Will the 2023 production happen on-time? Will there be actually a 2024 model that is separated from the 2023 model? Such a thing remains unclear until now. What we can do is to wait for further confirmation, especially whether there is 2023 model on the way and will it be ready on-time? So, I guess the matter about 2024 Kia Sportage has to wait for a while.
