2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG: What We Know About Design, Engine, Performance

Do you want to know about the leaked information about 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG? After several decades of being an all conquering off roader, Mercedes-Benz G-class became a status symbol for celebrities worth six figures. The G-class is now generating the all electric EQG in the wake of the automotive landscape’s shift away from gas-powered vehicles.

At the moment, Mercedes is only showing the Concept EQG, which is a close-to-production version.  EQG retains its G-class styling, and Mercedes argues that it should continue to offer exceptional all terrain capability.  An old school, robust ladder frame is expected to support the four electric motors in the Mercedes EQG of 2024.

Uniqueness of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

As the brand’s first ever all new model, the EQG will be a ground-up design. Possibly in late 2023, it could hit the market for the 2024 model year. Despite sharing the same suspension and chassis as the gas powered G-class, the EQG will have its own batteries and electric motors.

A lockable box is fitted in place of the traditional spare wheel housing, to store the charger and provide some additional storage, but unlike the Concept EQG, the EQG will still feature a rear-mounted spare tire.

EQG, like the F-150 Lightning, is also a conversion of a conventional model based on an internal combustion engine.  In addition, do not expect a flat floor or the hyper screen display on the Electric G-Wagon to be present.

Interior & Exterior Design of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

Interior Design of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

As a result of the light color of the interior, it appears more peaceful, which complements the silent operation of the electric power-train.

In terms of interior design, the Mercedes EQG concept is similar to the G-Class. Despite having a similar design and layout, the interior looks rich and clean, due mainly to its whiter than white color.

Despite not looking noticeably different, the steering wheel is new. The concept model also features a unique center console trim. EV-specific information is displayed on the instrument cluster and a three-dimensional star pattern is displayed on the central display. It does not have a differential lock icon on the three differential lock switches in the center console.

Exterior Design of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

With electric vehicleOpens in a new tab. specific styling bits and a completely different power-train, the Mercedes EQG concept car is a modified second-generation Mercedes G-Class.

The exterior changes include a two-tone color scheme featuring gloss aluminum on the bottom and gloss black on the top. Instead of the spare wheel cover, there is an EV wall box charger-inspired lockable box. A black panel radiator grille features an illuminated star, an animated pattern around the star, and an illuminated band on the edges.

Customers prefer progressive changes built on the original character, not low-slung aerodynamic cars. The second generation G-Class reflects that preference with its evolutionary design. Media speculation has always assumed the EQG would look very similar to the regular model, and the concept version confirms that.

Engine of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

A production version of the Mercedes EQG concept had been reported to feature four individual motors, mimicking the three differential locks found on the Mercedes G Class. In-wheel motors are not what we’re discussing here; we’re talking about conventional motors. WLTP ranges of 500 plus kilometers or 311 plus miles do not seem excessive.

In the Mercedes EQG concept, the instrument cluster shows 75 percent charging and 315 km or 196 miles of range left. A 100 percent charge would extend the range to 420 kilometers or 261 miles.

Assuming that this is the maximum range is not technically correct. A Mercedes EQG’s 189.7 inch wheelbase is probably too short to accommodate the 107.8 kWh battery packs of the Mercedes EQS, with its 126.4 inch axle-to-axle length. However, Mercedes-Benz Group would need to keep ground clearance in mind if it decides to go with a new, double-stacked battery pack.

Transmission & Performance of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

A four motor EQG will be powered by individual electric motors near each wheel, which should enhance off-road and on-road driving performance. According to the concept, the EQG will also come with a shift able 2 speed transmission to allow for off-road cruising. A rigid rear axle and sophisticated independent front suspension will help with on-road driving of the EQG, which will use a similar chassis setup as the gas-powered G-class.

Mercedes-Benz goes against its own patents on electric-only or electric-first platforms with the goal of keeping development and production costs at a minimum. Most importantly, this electric car is maintaining the capabilities of the iconic off-roader, and bringing it to the market much more quickly. As a result, it would also mean that it would not have the best features that Mercedes cars have from the beginning because they were developed as EVs from the beginning.

Battery of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

Mercedes-Benz and California-based Sila Nanotechnologies announced on May 17, 2022, that Sila’s silicon anode chemistry will power the all-electric G-Class. Energy density is increased with high silicon anodes without compromising performance or safety. It is said that the new technology can increase energy density by twenty to fourty percent, enabling cells to be able to handle more than 800 Wh per liter.

Sila’s Washington state facility will manufacture the advanced silicon anode materials using full clean energy, and Mercedes-Benz has been named the factory’s first public customer. A mid-decade timeline is also being targeted for the introduction of the new batteries on the Electric G-Wagon. EQG will be a heavy frame SUV, so a battery with greater energy density will preserve range despite it being heavy.

Suspension of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

A rigid rear axle and independent front suspension are features of the Concept EQG, just like the current G-Class.

Several electric motors are located near different wheels on the concept version. Each motor can be controlled individually. By using the vehicle’s two-speed gearbox, the driver can activate off-road reduction.

Production EQGs will be able to turn 360 degrees on their axis as one of their biggest off-road tricks. In addition to a rigid axle and independent front suspension, the production model will have an independent front suspension as well.

Release Date & Cost of 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG

After launching the Mercedes EQS SUV in 2021, Mercedes-Benz Group plans to launch the Mercedes EQG two years later in 2024. The Mercedes-Benz Group is taking the concept version around the globe to dealers, potential buyers, and G-Wagen fans, while engineers work on the production-ready Mercedes EQG.

It is expected that the all-electric G-Class like 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG will start at around USD 140,000. When the 2024 Mercedes EQG is available at dealerships, we estimate that its price will be around $150,000 when it arrives on the market. When the EQG goes on sale, we will be able to get more details on the different trims and their price tags closer to the time when the electric off-roader goes on sale.

Other Variation of Mercedes-Benz EQG

Mercedes-AMG EQG high-performance variants are also planned for the planned model line. A Mercedes-Benz Group trademark application was filed with the EU trademark office on April 1, 2021 for two names that it could use for Mercedes EQG, EQG 560 and EQG 580, that could be used in the future. EQG had registered the name EQG at the EUIPO in 2016, and the trademark now belongs to the company. This information was revealed in a Mercedes EQS variant that would use 580 on April 3, 2022.

Mercedes-Benz has ambitious electrification plans, having already introduced the EQB crossover, the EQS luxury sedan, the EQE sedan, and the EQS SUV. It is likely that the boxy G-class, which has a V-8 AMG G63 engine, will eventually be powered by electricity.

The commercially available electric G-class was previewed last year with the flashy EQG concept. But Mercedes rarely revealed any details about the off-roader’s mechanical components. During a recent conference, Mercedes demonstrated one of its party tricks, the G-turn, that will be available in the production version of the EQG.

EQG features four electric motors, one for each wheel, that spin the SUV by turning them in opposite directions to each other, via four motors on each side of the vehicle. On an area of dirt, a camouflaged prototype rotates 360 degrees on its own axis, with this stunt likely to only work off road. Mercedes has some time to work out the kinks before the EQG arrives in 2024, so their engineers of Mercedes has not included the tank turn functionality in the production of the next generation electric cars.
