According to the report in Japan, Both Crosstrek and Impreza will receive a new developed 1.5-liter direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engine that is able to replace the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Boxer which were the current engine used by the both cars.
Subaru Corporation will have 80% global production upgrading along with the smaller direct-injection turbocharged boxer engine. This way, either Subaru or Impreza will get them. The current 2021 Crosstrek has recently upgraded with 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, making it assumed that 2023 model will keep using the engine for Sport and Limited trim options.
On the other hand, the Base, Premium and Hybrid trims would receive 1.5-liter turbocharged power-plant. Based on the reports, the company will produce the model with the same 152 horsepower) 148-hp) for the 2.0-liter engine.
