The pandemic has really affected everything, including the release of 2023 Toyota Tundra. In reality, there is official release about the 2023 model, which leads to predictions that it’s highly possible that their supposed to 2022 model would be set as 2023 model.
Well, it doesn’t matter whether the upcoming Tundra would be coming as 2022 model or the 2023 type. What’s important is that the vehicle will get a significant update and change, which is set as the third generation Tundra.
Power and Performance
It’s possible that the new Tundra won’t be using the V8 unit with 5.7 liter anymore, because it is considered outdated and aging. However, since the company hasn’t said anything about the new powertrain and engine arrangement, a lot of predictions have been made. Many have speculated that the new Tundra will likely come with V6 twin-turbocharged unit with 3.5 liter capacity, which is similar to the Land Cruiser 300 Series.
The latest teaser showed Tundra with iForce Max, and since there is also an image of six ribs (instead of the eight ribs), then it’s more likely that the new truck comes with V6 unit. What about hybrid possibility? Well, the logo for iForce Max uses blue trim. Toyota has this unique tendency where their hybrid logo model would be having a blue trim on it. It’s possible that the iForce Max is that hybrid model that everyone has expected. We need to wait further for more detailed info.
Aside from the changes happening to the ‘expected’ 2023 Toyota Tundra, interior cabin will likely get the same treatments. The teaser also showed the all new and updated interior, including (subtle) camouflaged details for the TRD Pro trim (and the red perforated leather) and textured shift knob. There are also a nice combo of digital gauges and analog features. It’s likely that there would be a phone pad for wireless charging. You have to admit that the current Tundra has been outdated, so clever and advanced upgrades are definitely needed.
Some of the improved features include retractable rear window or the full-length moonroof type. It’s still unclear. But even such a seemingly simple feature would boost accessibility and airflow, and it affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the truck.
Construction and Exterior Design
The new Tundra would be the first ride that is constructed on top of TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform with body on frame structure. This is the same construction used by 4Runner, Tacoma, and Sequoia. Thanks to the new construction, the new Tundra should be lighter while improving safety and ride quality at the same time. This is also the time where Toyota would be shifting to coil spring suspension (the previous one was the leaf spring type) on the rear side, delivering better and smoother experience.
Price and Release Date
Because all of the improved features and all the updates, the price of the upcoming Tundra will increase significantly. The base may start from around $52,000, while the King Ranch will be around $56,000, the Platinum would be $59,000, and the Limited would be less than $70,000. Again, we don’t know whether the upcoming model would be set as the 2022 model or the 2023 Toyota Tundra.
