2023 BMW X5: Still the Best Crossover with the Minor Updates

The upcoming 2023 BMW X5 is considered a refreshing update because the current X5 is still the best rides within the segment. You have to admit that X5 has gained its own positive reputation as this popular and likable midsize crossover, so it’s quite understandable if Beemer wants to retain that reputation. The upcoming 2023 model would be getting a facelift, just enough to deliver a refreshed look.

The Upcoming Model

Beemer has shown off the slight visual and info of the updated M2, but only a slight glimpse. But the company hasn’t said anything about the specifications of the new vehicle. They keep it a secret. It’s not an odd thing to do. In the previous launching attempt, the company didn’t say anything about this smallest performance ride. It didn’t even get the full fledged M motor until the special editions have been made available. If everything goes as planned, the upcoming M2 may get the S58 full fledge engine, and even more from the M4 and M3.

The 2023 BMW X5 would be set as the fifth gen of the line. Having a mid cycle refresh would be logical. Although the ride is heavily camouflaged, it’s obvious of the changes of the style. Aside from the exterior changes, there would be updates on the inside. The powertrain, however, will likely the same.

The Facelift Plan

From the design, the 2023 BMW X5 is experiencing a facelift. The camouflaged prototype has been spotted undergoing testing stage, and it’s kind of difficult to see the layout from the heavy cloak. But what seen from the obvious detail, the changes won’t be too much. Unlike the M4 or the M3, there won’t be super big grille design. There are minor (and subtle) changes on the front fascia, though, along with the rear areas. New wheels and new colors are also expected.

Aside from the physical updates, the mechanical factor will be the same. The SUV would be constructed on CLAR platform, offering impressive and comfortable riding quality. handling is great and the steering is perfect.

The Interior Cabin

On the inside, it’s likely that the cabin would stay the same. It’s not a huge deal because the crossover is already known for its high-end materials, conservative aesthetics, and well-built interior. On the center stacks, there would be changes, including bigger infotainment system and new technology. The current one is using 12.3 inch display screen, so imagine how big the upcoming model would be.

For the space, it will likely be the same. The two rows would be generous, while the third row isn’t functional and it is cramped. It’s a good thing that the third row is optional. Cargo area is pretty roomy and spacious. When compared to other brands in this segment, this one by BMWOpens in a new tab. is pretty generous and big, unless for Volvo XC90.

Powertrain and Performance

No one expect drastic or big changes for the 2023 model, so it’s likely that the X5 will come with the same powertrain. It may come with inline-six unit that is able to deliver 335 hp, smooth and punchy enough for comfortable and convenient travel. If those who are more ambitious and want bigger power, there is the V8 unit with 4.4 liter capacity, delivering 523 hp. It’s available in M50i model.

The X5 M would be using similar engine that is tweaked so it can reach 600 hp. And as if it weren’t enough, there would be M Competition model, having 617 hp. All of those engines would be coming with ZF 8 speed transmission. What about hybrid power? There is hybrid option for X5, having inline-six as the base, producing 389 hp and also 443 Nm of torque. This one is quite fast and speedy, as it can reach 60 mph in only 5.6 seconds.

Price and Release Date

The X5 should be available at dealerships in 2022, by the second half. The predicted starting price may start from around $60,000. It would be set as the competitor against Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and Mercy GLE.
