Knowing that 2023 Lexus GX will get a new update is exciting. Despite the fact that the ride is reliable and tough, you have to admit that this medium SUV is pretty outdated. It’s a good thing that the company is well aware of it, and they have been scheduling a new work in line.
The Upcoming Updates
It’s very likely that both Toyota and Lexus would be all-out with their productions, especially for the 2023 season. It would be a shame if a handsome ride like GX goes to a waste. After all, it is appealing and unique in many ways. The medium SUV is definitely bigger than RX variant, but more affordable and smaller when compared to the LX. Hopefully, with new improvements and fresh appearance, the GX will be able to attract more attention.
There are several obvious plans along the way. Although the detailed info about powertrain is still unclear, there is a possibility of new hybrid unit. It’s possible that GX will retain its current power arrangement to boost great performance. But one thing for sure: You can expect impressive and strong offroad abilities that never wane.
Significant updates would be obvious for the exterior area. Due to its extremely outdated appearance, this SUV in dire need for refreshing work. It’s only logical if a full redesign is in store to make this GX attractive again. Unfortunately, Lexus has other focus: the RX and LX, which means that GX has to wait. Plus, such a complete project needs tons of workforce, financial resources, and more – and things have been difficult since the pandemic.
It seems that there won’t be a lot of change for the interior cabin of 2023 Lexus GX. The SUV has 7 seats with enough room within the first two rows. The back one would be more ideal for kids as it is narrow. Higher trims would have captain’s buckets, which makes the SUV somewhat more exclusive and luxurious. Expect modern accessories and features to be included there, as well as the inclusion for infotainment system.
Engine, Performance, and Transmission
Lexus GX has been using the V8 unit like…forever. With 4.6 liter capacity, it is able to generate 300 hp and 330 Nm of torque. However, there is a possibility that the new GX will be using V6 unit with 3.5 liter capacity. The latter one is seriously considered because V8 consumes more fuel. And with the fact that Lexus is maintaining the offroad abilities, the SUV would be thirstier. Even with lighter body construction, fuel consumption will still be high.
That’s why they are considering the V6 turbocharged unit. If such a thing is paired with iForce Max (which is source for hybrid), expect improved performance and impressive outcome. But then again, they haven’t said anything about hybrid power, so it’s better wait for official release about the new GX.
Price and Release Date
Lexus hasn’t said anything about the price or the release date. But predictions have been made about the price, with the starting base may be set at around $55,000 and the higher end would be $70,000. We just have to wait for their official statement of 2023 Lexus GX which may take place next year.
