The upcoming 2023 BMW 5 Series G60 is said to come with a more ‘regular’ and conventional look at the front end. It’s highly likely that the variant will also be available with all electric power – designed as the first ever production.
The Updated Design and Plan
There have been several spy images of the new 5 Series, and those exclusive shots show how good looking the sedan will be. Unfortunately, this is just the early stage of their production and development, which means that there are always possibilities that the design we see from these images may change later. Hopefully, there won’t be too many changes happening to the future sedan.
Based on those spy images, the prototype is heavily covered, unless for the taillights and the headlights. Although there aren’t many details to know about the new sedan, you can at least have ideas of what the new shape would look like.
The new Beemer is designed to come during fall 2023, and it will be coming as the G60 generation from the 5 Series line. This mid-size vehicle would be offered in electric unit. That’s why it is called as the i5. It would be a crucial part of the company’s path to electric power and its technology.
Exterior Appearance
From the available spy shots, the i5 seems to have flatter end, especially when compared to G30. The latter debuted back then in 2017. There is broad grille that doesn’t look similar to the big kidney design appearing on 4 Series or M3 types. But the 2023 BMW 5 Series is likely to be inspired from iX’s lighting and also design.
If you move to the side, you will see that the compartment for passenger is designed to be set back. Door handles are inspired from i4 with recessed grips. And then the softly sloping roof to the end, merging to the trunk lid exudes an elegance flair of the design. What’s unique from this popular sedan is that there would be body-colored diffuser; not exhaust pipes. On the rear windows, you can find Hofmeister kink as Beemer’s signature. In the overall end, it seems that the sedan’s proportions have grown and expanded. You can tell from the prominent overhangs, far more than the current design.
Interior Look
Stylish look is improved and more techs would be found in the cabin. There would be next gen I-Drive 8, which had been ‘shown off’ by BMW during CES 2021 earlier this year. The overall concept is almost the same to Beemer iX, but there would be different user interface (the easier types) that are meant to make operation easier and more convenient. There would be different ranges of screen with different functions, from infotainment tasks to driver info.
Powertrain and Performance
The new 5 Series would be constructed on Cluster Architecture II (CLAR) platform. This special platform supports pure electric variations as well as plug in hybrids. It also supports combustion units (with mild hybrids). Just like the i7 (or Beemer 7 Series) and i4 (4 Series), the 5 Series G60 will come with the i5, the electric tech. But it remains unclear up to now whether the i5 would be coming with similar powertrain of i7 or the i4. To give you insight, the i7 comes with various battery capacities from 30 kWh up to 120 kWh.
Price and Release Date
Pricing factor is still unknown. For the launch, it may happen in 2023 or the very late 2022. The electric i5 is designed to stand firm against strong rivals like Audi e-Tron A6 and Mercy EQE. Hopefully, the new 2023 BMW 5 Series would be as great as promised.
